Monster Travel Shuts Down

15 Jul 10 - 2:09PM  | Travel Agent News

Freedom Travel Group member Monster Travel has ceased trading.

The online travel agency and call centre, based in Newcastle, employed around 100 people including a team of homeworkers.

Freedom, which is part of The Co-operative Travel, will take on all forward bookings from Monster Travel as well as ensuring trade suppliers will be paid.

Monster was set up by David Hawke and Julie Gilmore two years ago. Hawke was previously head of direct sales for Thomson Holidays and sales director at Hays Travel.

When the business started, Monster said it was launched to “fill a gap in the market for a full-service travel agency offering package holidays, bespoke holidays, ski, cruise and city breaks”.
