Lunchtime Deadline For BA Strike Decision

10 Mar 10 - 10:51AM  | Airline News
A deadline of lunchtime today has been set for the conclusion of meetings to try and prevent a strike by British Airways cabin crew.

The date was extended from last night (Tuesday) by the TUC which has been co-ordinating meetings between the airline and cabin crew unions.

A statement from both sides released yesterday said: "It had been hoped to be able to conclude the talks today [Tuesday] but both sides have agreed that more time is needed and the negotiations will be resumed again under TUC auspices tomorrow."

BA crew voted for strike action last month over pay and working conditions.

The Unite union must give a week's notice of any stoppages and has given assurances that members will not walk out over Easter.

If talks fail to avert industrial action, strikes could begin as early as next Wednesday (March 17).
