Hilton is to open more than 20 new hotels in the UK, creating around 1,500 jobs, as part of a major expansion plan over the next three years.

The chain is planning more than 110 additional hotels across Europe by 2014, creating more than 8,500 new jobs in total.

Its expansion plans will include Russia, Germany, Poland and Turkey as well as the UK, where it has identified cities such as Lincoln and Burton-on-Trent as ripe for expansion.

Hilton's area president for Europe Simon Vincent said: "While unemployment figures in Europe continue to rise, Hilton Worldwide is experiencing an exciting period of growth, which will see us continue to offer a wealth of rewarding career options."

Hilton has 165 hotels in 31 countries in Europe. The company announced three years ago plans to open 150 new hotels within 10 years.
