Two travel agency directors have been fined for breaches in Atol regulations following a prosecution brought by the Civil Aviation Authority.

Michael Puplampu and Comfort Tetteh, directors of Bedford-based Micon Travel and Tours, were charged with two counts of breaching Atol regulations.

Bedford Magistrates Court found them guilty and ordered compensation totalling £3,315 to be paid to their customers plus £2,068 in legal costs.

The company has been dissolved.

The CAA decided to prosecute the directors following customer complaints for falsely claiming to be acting as an agent to an Atol holder and for taking bookings for seats on flights which did not exist.

CAA head of Atol licensing Andy Cohen said: “Breaches of the ATOL regulations can cause consumers unnecessary inconvenience and distress as well we putting them at immediate financial risk as in this recent prosecution.

“To protect consumers the CAA will continue to investigate businesses which is believes may be acting in breach of the Atol regulations, and will bring prosecutions where it considers them to be in the public interest.”
