Buttons and icons
Exit Button. Press this button to close the
current module, disconnect from the server, and log out. You will be returned
to the log in screen, at which point you may log back in or visit another web
page.
Emulator Button. Press this button to access
the freeform emulator frame of the current training program. You may use the
freeform emulator frame to interact directly with the current training
program's GDS emulator. To access the freeform emulator frame of a training
program other than the current training program, use the Open New Module
Button.
Hint
Button. Press this button when you need assistance answering a
question. Sometimes the hint will be in the form of an example GDS entry .
Other times, the hint will be text-based.
Answer Button. Press this button when you
need to see the answer to a question. This feature may or may not be available
to you. Some teachers allow their students to have access to this feature,
while others do not.
Score Button. Press this button to check
your score in real-time during a quiz or test (exam). This feature is available
only from within a quiz or test module. You may not use this button to check a
score after you have progressed beyond a quiz or test module. To check a score
after you have progressed beyond a quiz or test module, use the Check Scores
page on the VIASINC web site.
Previous Subject Button. Press
this button to move to the the most recent beginning of a subject. If your
current location is beyond the first frame of a section, pressing this button
will return you to the beginning of the section you are already in. If you are
already on the first frame of a section, pressing this button will take you to
the beginning of the previous section.
Previous Frame Button. Press this button to
move to the previous frame. This feature may not always be available. Some
frames do not allow it. In particular, this feature is disallowed when the
current frame has changed the size or content of the emulator window.
Next Frame Button. Press this button to
advance to the next frame. This feature is not available on frames where a
question is asked. On these frames, you must answer the question to advance.
The Next Frame Button assumes special functionality on the last frame of a
module. When pressing the button on these frames, you will be advanced to the
next module in the course outline.
Next Subject Button. Press this button to
move to the beginning of the next subject. This feature can be used to skip a
section. For example, some sections may not be relevant to your geographical
location, in which case you will be advised to skip these sections using the
Next Subject Button.
Open New Module. Press this button to move
to a different lesson, exercise, quiz or test. A dialog box will appear in
which you must specify the program, version, package, course, type and module.
(The version and package options are rarely used, and will not be discussed
here.) Use the "Program" field to specify the GDS training program you desire.
There is an Abacus training program, a Galileo training program, a Sabre
training program, etc. Use the "Course" field to specify the desired course
within the training program. Use the "Type" field to specify the desired type
of module. The choices are "Lesson", "Exercise and Emulator", "Quiz", "Test",
or "Drill". Lessons are where new subjects are introduced and explained.
Exercises are where you practice in a simulated GDS environment what you've
learned in the lessons. The emulator turns your computer into a simulated GDS
set. Quizzes provide a stress-free environment in which to gauge your
comprehension. Tests are like final exams. There is one test at the end of
every course. Drills provide additional practice. Use the "Module" field to
select the actual lesson, exercise, quiz or test you wish to access.
Show Contents of Current Module Button.
Press this button to determine your place within the current module. You will
see a list of sections comprising the current module. To determine your current
section, look at the information in the last column. It will show the number of
frames in the section, and how far you are. For example "5 out of 15" means you
are on the fifth frame of fifteen. To move to a different section, use your
mouse to highlight the desired section and click the "Retrieve" button.
Search
Button. Press this button to search for a subject when you do not
know its keyword. A dialog box will appear in which you must specify the host,
course, and the subject to search for. Use the "Host" field to specify the GDS
training program you desire. There is an Abacus training program, a Galileo
training program, a Sabre training program, etc. Use the "Course" field to
specify the desired course number within the training program. In most of the
training programs, Course 1 covers airline reservations, Course 2 covers fares
and ticketing, Course 3 covers car bookings, and Course 4 covers hotel
bookings. In the "Subject" field you must specify a subject to search for. For
example, to search for the subject "PNR" in the Sabre training program, press
the Search Button, then in the Host field select "Sabre", in the Course field
select "Course 1", in the Subject field type "PNR", and click the button marked
"Search Now." A listing of all the sections covering the subject "PNR" will
appear. Select the the desired section and highlight it with your mouse, then
click the "Go To" button.
Show Search List Button. Press this button
to display the results of the most recent search operation. A listing of all
the sections found by the last search operation will appear. Select the the
desired section and highlight it with your mouse, then click the "Go To"
button.
Add Bookmark Button. Press this button to
add the current section to your list of bookmarks. The location of the first
frame of the current section will be recorded in your personal bookmark list.
You may return to this location at a future time by pressing the button
explained below and making a selection from the list.
Show Bookmark List Button. Press
this button to display your list of bookmarks. A dialog box will appear in
which you must select a desired bookmark. Use your mouse to highlight the
bookmark of your choice, then click the "Go to" button.
Show Current Options Button. Press this
button to display a list of your current options. A dialog box will be
displayed containing a context-sensitive list of currently-available options.
Use this feature when in doubt on how to proceed.
Show User Guide Button. Press this button to access the User Guide on the
VIASINC web site.
Glossary Button. Press this button to
consult the online glossary of industry terms, phrases, and acronyms. A dialog
box will appear in which you must type an industry term, phrase, or acronym.
After you have typed it, press the "Define" button. If your entry is stored in
the database, the definition will be displayed. If your entry matches more than
one definition, a list of similar matches will be displayed. Highlight a
selection with your mouse, then click "Define."
Send
Mail Button. Press this button to send electronic mail to your
teacher, tutor, or lecturer. A dialog box will appear in which you must type a
message describing your query or problem. Upon clicking the "Send" button, the
message will be directed to the person or entity programmed as the e-mail
recipient in your System Settings Record. In addition to transmitting the text
typed in the dialog box, the system will send your current place within the
course, as well as the last entry you made.
